The Fine Grit Ivory strata with usually a yellow to cream color comes from near the top of the mountain at the mining location. These stones look even more spectacular in person with their incredible patterns and colors developing in them from trace minerals. There are streaks of blue, gold and hints of a pink to red rusty brown that mix together to form incredible works of art.
This variety of Fine Grit Ivory stones have an exceptional balance of hardness grit and cutting speed. While slightly softer than our Super Fine white grade of ivory, they boast nearly the same level of grit fineness and fast cutting speed. 
These stones shine as a finishing whetstone, but also work incredibly well during mid range and pre polishing sharpening stages. They come supplied with a small slurry stone, which you can use to dress the surface when it begins to slow down in cutting speed, as well as create mud to increase its cutting power with slurry. 
These stones are exceptionally fast with using a diamond plate to generate mud, very easily fast enough to rapidly take a straight razor from a 1000 grit bevel setting range straight through mid range polishing and onto finishing. You will get the finest results with light sharpening strokes and water or a slowly generated slurry which gives an awesome buttery smooth and creamy sensation with soft yet engaging feedback and a very faint raspy sound.
Over all this is an excellent choice for the enthusiast who wants a stone that is hard to gouge into and a very dense material with extremely high concentrations of cutting particles. Even in a professional knife shop that sees hundreds of sharpening sessions a month this stone will last many decades - or multiple lifetimes for the average end user.
